Website builders, explained
Every builder can make a good-looking homepage. The real differences show up later: how easy it is to add a page, how fast the site loads, how well it ranks on Google and what it costs once you add a domain, forms and a blog.
If you'll maintain it yourself and you're not a designer, choose simplicity. If you want a premium, design-led site, choose a builder that gives you control without code.

What to look for
Speed
Slow sites lose visitors and rankings. Look for fast hosting included and images that are optimised automatically.

SEO controls
Custom page titles, descriptions, clean URLs, redirects and a sitemap. If you can't edit these, you can't compete on Google.

Easy editing
Updating text, adding a blog post or changing a photo should take minutes, not a call to your web designer.

🎨 My top website pick
Framer gives you the design freedom of a custom-built site without writing code. Sites load fast, the SEO controls are solid and the editor is simple enough to hand over to a client. It's what this site is built on.

Before you pay for anything
01
Make contact one tap away
Put your phone number and WhatsApp in the header. Most small business visitors are on their phone.
02
Say what you do in the first line
Your headline should tell a stranger what you offer and where, in under ten words.
03
Add reviews near every button
A short testimonial beside your call to action reassures people at the moment they decide.
04
Compress every image
Large photos are the main reason small business sites load slowly. Resize them before you upload.
05
Give every service its own page
One page per service gives Google something specific to rank and customers exactly what they searched for.
My promise
Every verdict tells you who a tool is for, who should skip it, and what it really costs. If I earn a commission, I say so.
How to choose
01
Decide who'll edit it
You, a team member or a designer? Choose the builder that person will actually enjoy using.
02
List what it has to do
Bookings, a shop, a blog, more than one language. Check each is built in, not a paid add-on.
03
Build one page for free
Recreate your homepage on the free plan. You'll know within an hour whether it suits you.

Website builder FAQ
Your website builder questions, answered.
Which website builder is easiest for beginners?
Wix is the most beginner-friendly, with templates and built-in tools for bookings and selling. Framer suits people who care about design and want more control over the look.
How much does a small business website cost?
With a builder, roughly $10 to $30 a month on yearly billing including hosting, plus your domain. Custom design, extra seats or a developer add to that.
Framer or Webflow: which is better?
Framer is faster to design in and easier to hand over to a client. Webflow is stronger for large, content-heavy sites with complex CMS and permission needs.
Can I move my site to another builder later?
Not easily. Most builders don't export a working site, so you would rebuild the design. Your domain and your written content can move with you.
Is a website builder good for SEO?
Yes. The main builders handle speed, sitemaps and page titles well. Rankings still come down to your content and how well each page matches what people search for.
Affiliate disclosure
DigiStacker is free to use because some links are affiliate links. If you sign up through them I may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes my scores, rankings or recommendations.
Independence
Every verdict is my own opinion, based on my research and experience. No company pays to be reviewed, ranked or featured, and I'll always tell you who should skip a tool as well as who should buy it.
Pricing
Prices are checked on each provider's own pricing page and shown in USD. Software pricing changes often, so always confirm the current price and terms before you buy.
