AI tools, explained
The best uses are the boring ones: first drafts of emails and posts, summarising long documents, brainstorming ideas and rewriting copy for different channels. Used well, that's hours back every week.
Where it goes wrong is trusting it blindly. AI can make up facts, sounds generic without your input and needs a human to check anything that goes out under your name. Treat it as a fast junior, not a replacement.

🤖 A straight answer
Most small businesses should start with ChatGPT. It's cheaper, more flexible and handles drafting, research and brainstorming well. Jasper makes sense for marketing teams producing lots of on-brand content who need shared templates and brand controls.

✓ You're a team of one or two
✓ You want one tool for everything
✓ Budget matters most
Choose Jasper if
✓ Several people write for your brand
✓ You need brand voice controls
✓ You publish content at volume
Before you pay for anything
01
Turn one blog post into five
Paste in an article and ask for a LinkedIn post, an email, three social captions and a short video script.
02
Draft replies to common questions
Feed in your FAQs and best past answers, then use AI to draft quick, consistent replies to customer emails.
03
Summarise long documents
Reports and meeting notes condensed into the five points that matter. Always check the original before you act.
04
Brainstorm headlines and offers
Ask for twenty versions of a headline, then pick and polish the best two yourself.
05
Write a brand voice guide
Give it examples of your best writing and ask it to describe your tone. Reuse that guide in every prompt.
My promise
Every verdict tells you who a tool is for, who should skip it, and what it really costs. If I earn a commission, I say so.
How to choose
01
List the tasks that eat your week
Writing, research, design, admin. Start with the one that costs you the most hours.
02
Try the free versions first
ChatGPT and Canva both have free plans. Use them for a fortnight before paying for anything.
03
Pay for workflow, not hype
Upgrade when you hit a real limit, such as team sharing or brand controls, not because a tool launched a new feature.

AI tools FAQ
Your AI tool questions, answered.
Is the free version of ChatGPT enough for a business?
It is a good place to start. Upgrade to a paid plan when you hit usage limits or need the more capable models every day for writing, research or analysis.
Will AI replace my copywriter or designer?
No, but it changes the job. AI is fast at first drafts and ideas. A person still needs to add judgement, accuracy and the voice that makes your brand sound like you.
Is it safe to put client data into AI tools?
Only when the tool's terms and settings make clear your data isn't used to train its models. Keep sensitive client information out by default, and check the privacy settings on every tool.
Can Google tell if content is written by AI?
Google ranks content on quality, not on how it was made. Thin, generic AI copy rarely ranks. Useful content that a person has checked, edited and added real experience to can.
What is the best AI tool for social media graphics?
Canva is the easiest for most small businesses. Its AI features turn a prompt or a photo into on-brand posts quickly, and the free plan is enough to try them.
